Hi Readers,

This was a major week for Canadian immigration, with important updates on Express Entry, Ontario PNP draws, the expected TR to PR pathway, and IRCC processing inventories.

Here are the key stories you should not miss this week or would like to take a look again.

Top story: Major Express Entry overhaul proposed

IRCC has opened public consultations that are now seeking feedback from April 23 to May 24, 2026 to replace the current Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Trades programs with one unified Express Entry pathway.

The proposed changes could also overhaul CRS scoring and introduce a new high-wage occupation factor, making this one of the biggest Express Entry reviews since the system launched in twenty fifteen.

Ontario issued more than three thousand new PNP invitations

Ontario held major OINP draws this week.

On April 22, Ontario issued 918 invitations through the Masters Graduate and PhD Graduate streams. Read more here

On April 23, OINP issued another 2,102 invitations across four regional Employer Job Offer draws. Read full details here

TR to PR pathway details explained

New details emerged from Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab’s video interview posted on April 18, 2026.

As previously known, the pathway is expected to include 33,000 spots over two years, but a new detail is that it will be focused outside major city centres such as Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal. Read more here

IRCC processing times updated

IRCC released new weekly processing time data for PR cards and temporary visa applications on April 22, showing mixed results across visitor visas, super visas, study permits, work permits, and PR cards. Check Latest Processing Times Here

PR inventory crosses one million

IRCC’s latest inventory update shows that permanent residence inventory has crossed one million applications for the first time in the published record.

Total PR inventory reached 1,007,400 applications, while 53% of PR files were beyond service standards, falling into backlog. Read full backlog update here

What to watch next

Express Entry candidates should watch for the next week beginning with the PNP express entry draw followed by CEC and/or category-based draws, especially in pending categories such as STEM, transport, or education. 5 of the 10 active categories had not held a draw in twenty twenty-six as of April twenty-two. Also watch for details on the new TR to PR pathway, as it is the most anticipated event that could happen any day. We will closely monitor this development and promptly notify you as soon as details are available.
